all staff conference

This week is our all campus crusade staff conference (including all of the kids!) so there are about 130 of us. I'm really looking forward to it -- it's nice to get away for the week and we're staying in a really fun retreat center in the middle of nowhere in western France. To get there, we drive through big farming community (ahhh sigh....)

I'll have lots of pictures when I get back! Have a great week!

be proud erika.

I watched Star Wars with these 2 lovely Brazilian girls tonight. Silvia (left) had NEVER seen them. So we started with number 1 and now... she's hooked.

EXCITED they were!!!!!!!

I'd forgotten just HOW GOOD star wars is. I cried when Anakin said goodbye to his Mom. IT WAS VERY MOVING.

Just so so good.

Aren't you proud Shorty? Of all of the movies we could've watched...

top 10

yo yo my faithful blog readers!!

do you like my redesign of the blog? it wasn't really my redesign...I was inspired by molly. she just redesigned her blog like 2 days ago, but since i want to be like her and her blogger-self amazingness in every way, I decided "imitation really is the best form of flattery" and voila le changement. note it flat.

so... here are the top 10 most recent "fun-things-that-have-happened-in-my-life-and-are-blog-worthy-and-just-cool" pictures.

1. Eating at my favorite EVER crêperie in the company of Joyo who is a dear friend from China and who is leaving for good on Monday! :(

Seeing this poster downtown. Ha. Rennes is trying to help people understand the consequences of their actions with a "before" and "after"

Going to Gabe's soccer game (they tied the number 1 team!)

Hanging out and being goofy with Mallory at Gabe's game

5. Going to the Rennes vs. Bordeaux soccer game = A.M.A.Z.I.N.G especially since Bordeaux was ranked number 1, and especially since Rennes beat them 4-2. WOOHOO!!!!!!!!!

I mean, that game deserves 2 pictures. Look at how happy we (mostly) all are!!!

Tereza and I went to visit the new office we're getting in Rennes (!!!!!) -- the doors are a VERY bright green, but they grow on you!

Mallory and I had a date for her birthday, and we went to see Nathan's photo expo at the Franco-American Institute. So cool Nathan!

This was the view from my window this morning! Beautiful snow...

Jeremie turned 20 yesterday so we celebrated on campus today! I only had a "2" birthday candle and so he's making the "0" with his other hand... I also made no bakes (which you can kind of see under the "2"). Made with peanut butter from America. yuuuuuuuuuuuumm...

And there you have it!

Doesn't it make you want to come visit!?!?! :)

sweet irony?

Today I had a WONDERFUL surprise! One of the French staff families that live about a 10 minute walk from my house, brought me these beautiful flowers as a thank you for reading English books with one of their kiddos every weeks. It was soooooo sweet of them!

I silently chuckled to myself as I was admiring them. Just after my post about how I killed every living plant in my surroundings... oh dear. The pressure is on. I am determined to keep these alive. How long do you think they're supposed to live?

I was happy to see that there were a few pointers that came with the flowers (let's see if I understand them correctly):

1. Need partial sunlight
2. Keep at room temperature
3. Water 2 times a week
4. Umm.... what!?!
5. Same problem as number 4
6. Do not eat!

So my question is, do I water them now, right away??

Ahhh.... already I'm nervous! Ok, all 8 of you who made clever little comments on my last post, now is the time to give me advice!! The fate of these flowers rest in YOUR hands.
